Dead Island 2 is filled with rewarding Lost & Found quests that encourage players to explore every corner of Hell-A for secret loot. Among these side quests, Fool's Gold stands out as a particularly engaging mystery located along the iconic Santa Monica Pier. Completing this quest rewards players with a powerful legendary weapon, but tracking down every scrap of evidence requires careful investigation.
Starting the Fool's Gold Quest in Santa Monica
To initiate the quest, head toward the Lifeguard HQ near Santa Monica Pier after progressing through the main storyline. Defeat the unique Crusher zombie named Dante outside the building to collect his journal, which kicks off the investigation. Reading the initial note provides your first hints about a hidden stash buried somewhere along the beach.
Tracking Down Dante's Clues Around the Pier
The first clue points toward Randy's locker, located inside the Lifeguard HQ building. Interacting with the locker reveals additional details pointing toward two specific locations where Dante's accomplices left extra notes. Navigating the surrounding alleyways requires caution, as hostile apex variants often patrol these areas.
Check the alleyway near the stores to find the next journal entry tucked away near the trash containers. Following daily gaming news and quest walkthroughs helps players avoid unnecessary backtracks through zombie-infested zones. The final note is situated near the northern edge of the boardwalk, completing the set of clues needed to pinpoint the treasure.
Locating the Hidden Stash on Santa Monica Beach
With all clues gathered, the final step directs you to the sandy shoreline behind the Lifeguard HQ. Look for a secluded nook between the building's exterior structure and the wooden fences facing the ocean. As you approach the spot, prepare for a wave of aggressive undead attempting to protect the buried chest.
Clear out the remaining zombies to safely dig up the hidden container. Inside the chest, players will unlock the Blood Rage legendary dagger, a high-tier weapon renowned for its fast attack speed and critical damage potential. Completing Fool's Gold delivers both high-value gear and extra experience points to strengthen your slayer.
